The other day
Yet I’m hiding in shame.
You see the sky today
Filled with clouds
Crying throughout the day
That’s what the inside
Of my head looks like.
The other day
Funny thing
You won’t notice or
Know a thing about it
By just looking at me.
I'm from that battlefield
I’ve been traveling all night.
The other day
I’m from the battlefield.
I was destroyed
I was remade
In the battlefield.
You never wanted me to go,
But I had to fight.
The last time I saw you,
You were asleep
The day I left.
I'm in the doorway
Cross from you
My eyes are dark
Holes through my uniform
Gun on my back
I still have my hemalt.
You welcome me,
All I want to know
Is can I rest my head
For a while, away from
The battlefield.
Cause you are afraid
That one day ,
I might not return,
Or I might return
With more wounds and holes
Then I have now.
Don’t worry I’ll make sure
That you won’t have to see them.
I’m sorry
It’s time that I go back
Don’t want to go,
But duty calls.
Be safe.
Don’t worry too much.
See you later.
I walk away
I can’t look back at you
And I go back to
The battlefield.
